• Antiquity: steel making in Koroška started, Noris  (Koroška) iron had high reputation amoung the Romans
   
• 1620:  is documented as the year in which the first ironworks were built.
   
• 19th century: the counts of Thurn (owners of ironworks) joined smaller ironworks into one company named RAVNE Steelworks. Up to beginning of 20th century Thurn's steel received many awards and was sold all over the Europe, to Russia and even to China.
   
• 20th century: Due to the needs of own steel production and surrounding industry, on a base of Ravne quality steel and accumulated metallurgical knowledge, production of RAVNE KNIVES has started on this location. Initially it was organised in the workshops for maintenance, later more and more organized.
   
• 1918-1945: after World War I. the RAVNE Steelworks had financial difficulties, they solved  them by joining the Böhler company.
   
• 1946-1971: the true ascent of the RAVNE Steelworks began. New investments and rebuilding were made from foundry and iron work to the forged and rolling mill facilities. In addition to the metallurgical facilities mechanical process facilities were built up. In 1969 Ravne Steelworks were merged with Jesenice and Štore Steelworks into the company Slovenian Steelworks (Slovenske železarne).
   
• 1972: the company for production of industrial knives was established with its own production and heat treatment facilities
   
• 1991: Slovenian Steelworks reorganized the whole organization into a Holding with individual companies. This year is official start of RAVNE KNIVES company under the name Slovenske železarne Noži Ravne d.o.o.
   
• 1993: RAVNE KNIVES company exhibited for the  first time at the international fair under its own brand name.
   
• 1996: the production facilities were enlarged with additional 4500 qm to total 9000 qm.
   
• 1997: very important investment in a vacuum furnace was made. Efforts to obtain the highest possible quality are reflected in the certified Quality Assurance System by Bureau Veritas Quality International (BVQI) in accordance with ISO 9001 standards. 
   
• 1998-2005: production was equipped with modern CNC machinery, trade mark RAVNE knives has become world wide known. 
   
• 2005: Holding Slovenske železarne renamed into  SIJ – Slovenian industry of steel (Slovenska industrija jekla), also RAVNE knives company changed its official name into NOŽI RAVNE d.o.o. – RAVNE KNIVES.
   
• 2006: Investment in a new vacuum furnace for heat treatment up to a maximum length of 3700 mm.
   
• 2006: movement into a new building 

Today RAVNE knives company is one of the most important producers of industrial knives in the world. The trade mark RAVNE KNIVES is well known all over the world, sold in more than 50 different countries.
